We left Laughlin & the Gambling and Community Hall and
headed further east on another VERY hot morning. The plan was to have a fairly
steady but not onerous day heading to our next destination, Bryce Canyon. Putting fuel into your car offers almost anything in Nevada!
Naturally taking the easy (aka shorter) way didn’t come into
our thoughts and we bypassed Las Vegas & headed east through Kingman, Arizona on
Highway 68 before we had a quick burst on the Interstate 40 viewing amazing scenery wherever we looked. For the first time since we flew into LA there were actually clouds.
Just as we left the I 40 and headed north the ominous, dark,
lightning spitting clouds opened up and sent torrents of rain bucketing down.
We called for a 15 minute rain delay & took a coffee break. Coffee here is interesting, normally cheap, sometimes good and sometimes VERY average! But drinking coffee was easier than driving for the next 15 minutes!
Heading north we followed the road to the Grand Canyon
National Park. Passing our Parks Pass to the Ranger we were a little shocked
when she informed us that we still had about 9 hours of travel before we’d make
it to our destination for the night, Bryce Canyon. Oh well, at least the drive
looked to be interesting!
About 10 minutes after we entered the Park the Educator
uttered the words “holy moley” and immediately in front of the EXTERRRABLE
there was………
The GRAND CANYON!!!!!
Until you’ve seen this monumental example of erosion you
can’t possibly imagine just how big, large, huge, enormous and gigantic the Grand
Canyon is. I guess that’s how it got its name!!!!!!
Given the time of day and the journey in front of us we limited
our "wows" to about 50 and headed in search of our bed for the night. The arid, rocky landscape of Nevada, Arizona and finally Utah gave us plenty of moments of amazement. The landscape is so BIG! And people still live here but we had to wonder "what do they do"?
Looking at the scenery makes you feel fairly insignificant at times....
Through the drive and for all of the trip so far we have kept finding interesting places like this where we keep wondering if only we'd known about this restaurant, hotel, canyon, campground etc. One day we'll find out and our trips may be even better, but for the time being this is very GOOD!
With the magnificent sunset came the increasing worry of just how much further we had to go but finally we turned into Ruby's Inn RV and Campground for our luxurious accommodation.....
And all was fine and dandy for Little White Dove the next morning!!
