On the other hand Bryce Canyon was spectacular and more than lived up to the hype.
Red Canyon was right on the road as we headed towards our destination of Pioche which took us back into Nevada. It seems that quite a number of towns in Nevada started in the same year and were celebrating their 150th birthday or maybe it was Nevada's birthday. Whatever it was there was lots of celebrating!
After celebrating we headed a little further and lo and behold another natural wonder! This time we were at a gorge! Cathedral Gorge! Very hot, very dry and VERY beautiful!

It was by now a very dry argument so we headed for our place to have a drink and recover from our dry, canyony, gorgy and indeed gulchy day. Our accommodation in Pioche was interesting but really good. We were staying in "the little house" that was owned by the Motherlode Motel. They weren't kidding when they called it the little house. But it was a great little house for us!!!
Looking around Pioche the next morning was interesting. It is a town with a great mining history and although most of the mines are now closed the town is really trying to gain as much as it can from its history.
However we had a way to go that day so as much as it would have been great to stop longer and look in more detail we had to keep heading toward the day's final destination of the Biggest Little City in the World.
Our trip has been based around a couple of weddings, visiting a few friends in places we've called home in Canada in previous years and having the opportunity to see more areas of the United States where we haven't travelled before. Although the USA is well catered for by air we felt that the real way to see the "home of the automobile" was by using a car!
By using a number of resources we tend to be able to get some idea of what we're going to see but every now and then we follow roads to places that lead to the unexpected!!
And we were there for the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) softball tournament. Fairly social, lots of fun but when the big guy pitching for the visitors "pinged" one it went way out into the hills!!!!!!! A fun interlude.
One other stop was at a the petroglyph site. Great info but with NO DISTANCE ADVISED (pet hate of the apiarist) one half of the team turned back due to the Nevada heat. Please authorities, when there is a path that is marked wheelchair accessible can you PUT THE DISTANCE to the attraction. Off the soapbox now it did look interesting!!
When we arrived at.......
What else could you do???????
