Chic(ago) with Flick day 1

An early start from Kris & Mark's at Guelph saw us cross the border quickly and easily. We should try early getaways more often!

And we sadly left  Canada behind, were on our way to write the final instalments of our 2014 upover adventure. We're now heading for Route 66 and that great road trip commences at Chicago!!
Although we had an early start the drive in wasn't easy so we had a quiet night in preparation for 3 fairly packed Chicago days. For a start we were meeting Felicity (Flick) which is a nice thing and in general we wanted to see as much as we could of the Windy City! We started with a cruise on the suggested Chicago River cruise. We weren't aware that this was possible but we were amazed to see the cities much lauded architecture from the water.

Unfortunately Chicago started with a clean slate thanks to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and the architects have been at the forefront of their field since. An amazing start to the day.

My new job!!!

Of course this wasn't the only thing we wanted to do and see in Chicago. We needed to go to 1060 West Addison St.......... (ask John Candy in the Blues Brothers)!!

The Cubs mightn't win a lot (they should be our team) but they do play at a great historic venue and the tour was superb!

We headed back into the heart of the city and were astounded by the sculptures and by the bean!

Hunger pangs were becoming stronger and as we were looking forward to some musical entertainment we decided on one of the local delicacies, or at least 2 of the party did!!

Having eaten a Chicago culinary traditional deep dish pizza we then went to a Chicago musical tradition, a blues club. On this occasion it was to Blue Chicago
 http://www.bluechicago.com/ We like traditions!!!

With great music ringing in our ears we made our way home for the night and slept soundly in preparation for day 2 in Chicago!!
